Who I work with

Two kinds of families.

Rising high school seniors

Your student is applying to selective schools this fall. They're academically strong — grades and scores are competitive — and you both know the essays are now the variable that actually decides where they get in. You don't want them spending senior fall scrambling between AP classes and supplements at 11pm.

Rising high school sophomores and juniors

Your student is somewhere in their sophomore or junior year, and you're trying to figure out what they should be doing about college right now. Maybe your own college process was decades ago and looks nothing like the current one. Maybe you just want a sanity-check from someone who's been through Yale recently, before they commit to a junior-year course load or summer plan.

Kyle Thomas Ramos

Kyle Thomas Ramos is the founder of Sailfish Education Consulting. He graduated magna cum laude from Yale with combined Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Political Science and an Advanced Certificate in Spanish. During his senior year, he was named a U.S. Fulbright recipient, a Rhodes Scholar Finalist, and one of two graduation marshals chosen to represent the top scholars of his residential college. His senior essay, Midnight Confirmations: The Politics of Last-Ditch Judicial Appointments, won Yale's Percival Wood Clement Prize for the best senior essay defending the principles of the U.S. Constitution.

For four years, Kyle served on the staff of the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions, most recently as Head Tour Guide — leading the recruitment and training of the university's 70-person student ambassador team and rewriting Yale's official campus tour, now taken by more than 35,000 visitors each year. He has also served on numerous Yale advisory committees, including the Provost's Undergraduate Advisory Committee, the Post-Affirmative Action Admissions Advisory Committee, and the Dean Selection Committee for Pauli Murray College.

He coaches Sailfish students from his home base in Stuart, Florida — and, beginning September 2026, from Barcelona, where he will conduct Fulbright research as a Pre-Doctoral Researcher with the Faculty of Law at the Universitat de Barcelona.

Questions

Frequently asked.

My student already has a school counselor. Why do they need this?

Most school counselors juggle 200–400 students. They cannot give your essays line-by-line feedback within 48 hours, brainstorm story angles one-on-one, or coach the specific voice that an admissions reader will respond to. This is built for the work counselors don't have the bandwidth to do.

Do you write essays for students?

No. Every essay is the student's own writing in their own voice. Kyle coaches structure, asks questions to surface stronger material, and gives line-level feedback — but never drafts essays for students. Admissions readers can spot ghost-written essays, and beyond the ethics, ghost-writing actively hurts admission outcomes.

What if my student isn't applying to top-25 schools?

The intensive is built for students aiming at selective programs where essays are a real variable. If your student is applying primarily to schools with rolling admissions or above 50% acceptance rates, the full intensive is probably more than you need — the Junior Year Roadmap Session is a better fit.

Can we add more schools' supplements partway through?

Yes. Additional supplemental essays are $300 per school beyond the first five. Most families add 1–3 schools mid-summer once the personal statement is locked in.

Is the engagement refundable?

Within Week 1, yes — full refund of the initial $1,250. After Week 1, that initial payment is non-refundable, but you can still cancel before the start of Week 4 without owing the second $1,250. The full engagement is only locked in once that second payment is made.

How do payments work?

The Summer Essay Intensive is $1,250 at engagement start and $1,250 at the start of Week 4. The Roadmap Session is $225 paid in full at booking. Payment is handled through Stripe.
